Interesting video. Should have had the 'corner shop' option included so a direct comparison could be made with their repair quality versus the big guys.
3 ай бұрынGiovanni Papp +24
The quality of the repair itself will be the same. The experience, however, will be much simpler and faster as you are handing over the phone physically. If you hand over the phone to apple and Samsung physically (which you should always do tbh) both repairs will be pretty fast and probably cheaper than the repairs shown in this video
2 ай бұрынsaf1729 +12
@Giovanni Pappnot really, a lot of them use crappy aftermarket displays, so the quality can be a downgrade from the original ones.

@saf1729not to mention how using third party repairs usually voids the warranty

@saf1729 I don't think Apple even allows aftermarket replacements of anything. iOS nowadays comes with pre-installed ransomware bricking the device if you install non-Apple components. You can't even use original replacements from other Apple products because they serialized everything and they are harrassing you with annoying pop-ups if they detect any serial number that doesn't belong to that device.

@QwoaxYou can use some after market components bot not all of them, you can use an aftermarket LCD but it won't have the full function.

Apple is more expensive but the experience is so much smoother as a result, plus if you get the AppleCare option when buying your device (or just activate it from your phone settings as a relatively affordable monthly payment) you almost certainly wouldn’t have the big outlay for the repair. Having said that, their packaging was unusually confusing. But the most concerning things in the video is where Samsung didn’t seem to have the correct tracking numbers, which could have ended up with your phone being lost, and you were right to call them out on their structural issues. Even with the second repair attempt actually going smoothly, you were without your phone for over ten days (if I understood the video right) which isn’t brilliant if you don’t have a backup device in the meantime.

It would be interesting to do an in-store version of this. I agree that Samsung call centers are a nightmare, but have been pleasantly surprised by their 'experience centers'. Had a cracked hinge on my Fold 4 which i took in for repair and it was back with me 2 days later - repaired in store.

@octoslut Eh it's not that expensive. With trade in and release deals it was about 500quid with 100quid voucher for the Samsung store. But honestly that's irrelevant. Either I put a case on it so fat and rugged i hate using it or I accept that I'm gonna break it from time to time. Idk about you but things get dropped, doesn't matter how much I baby them.

For what it's worth, I sent my Z Fold 4 to Samsung for repair not too long ago, and I didn't run into any trouble. This is in comparison to bringing my phone to one of their repair stores, which was a nightmare. Granted, I'm in the US, so that may play a role too.

I learned a little bit about phone repair at an old job that refurbished iphones and other smart devices and what I've learned is that they've basically built a lot of technology into the screen. A lot more than used to be there. So replacing the screen is much more difficult than it used to be. Also the screen part is tied to the motherboard part on newer iPhones, in such a way that if for example you swapped the screen on two iphones, neither screen will work as it's not attached to ITS screen. Basically this is to prevent third party manufacturers from being able to make new screens for iphones. Let me tell you, it made repairs SUPER DIFFICULT, as a third party company.

I did call-centre work for a while and a lot of the internal policies of those out-sourced companies are utter crap. Despite me having some of the best studio-grade audio equipment on the market, they told me that it wouldn't work with their calling software, despite me using it throughout my training (which shocked them) and they sent me Amazon links to some £2 piece of shit USB mic+headphone combo and told me I HAD to use that, or I'd be breaking policy and would risk my job. It's no wonder a lot of these companies, especially ones that are still Work-From-Home, have the people on the other end sounding like they're talking through a bucket of muddy water.

It took 30 days to get a screen repaired for a top range xiaomi. ~230€ in total. The repair centers are usually out sourced (to local certified repair centers), and the waiting was basically getting the screen shipped (probably from China) to Europe (where i live). Sadly, apple is clearly doing better (of course charging premium)

I think the most familiar service type for Korean Galaxy users is to visit the Samsung Service Center and get it repaired. The reason is that the repair is usually completed within an hour except for the waiting time, and if you return the broken display to Samsung, the repair cost will be lower.(It costs about $185 to return the S23 Ultra display, but it costs about $62 to sign up for Samsung Care Plus.) So it was a big shot for me to get my phone repaired and wait for almost a week to a month to fix it.

It's just fluff, who breaks their phone and then calls the manufacturer to repair it? unless you have a Care Plus replacement plan etc where they immediately ship you a replacement you would be crazy not to get it repaired locally for less money, better data privacy and substantially cheaper. It's actually amusing in this video when Arun says he knows he got his original S23 ultra back because of the rear glass, he was incorrect, samsung would have ripped the internals and put them into a new housing (pretty much a whole new S23) and then glued his original rear glass onto the back of the new Screen / housing.

Worth noting in a lot of cases, if you purchased a phone from your carrier, they can facilitate the repair process for you and provide you with a loaner in some cases. The Apple repair would have been even more expensive if the damage was more extensive than just the screen. If have Apple Care or Samsung care, the service fee is usually $129 or around $79 respectively regardless of the damage, with the price of the accompanying warranty plan roughly about the same.

Couldn't fault em one bit.

That's why I love Apple. Yes, more expensive... but try getting your iPhone replaced under AppleCare when you're across the globe - it's a brilliantly seamless experience! I had my phone break in Japan and they recognized my phone was a North American version so they replaced it with that version instead of the Japanese version (which requires a loud flash sound to come on when you take photos to deter voyeur shots). Worth the cost imo.

I used to work in the industry in Australia, Samsung was notorious for being one of the worst companies to deal with when needing to get a device repaired. They'd make simple mistakes and try to pass the blame. They were the slowest out of all the manufacturers and were horrible to deal with. Apple was always expensive and a pain in the amount of detail they'd want but would get the devices back to us the quickest. This shows me that nothing has changed in all those years.

After watching this I feel like I should share my experience with Samsung repair as my experience was overall very positive. So my story begins during a driving lesson, where I am about to get out of the passenger seat to get into the drivers seat, my lesson was at 9°Clock and I didn't sleep very well the night prior to this, so I was fairly tired and not paying full attention. I had my phone a Samsung S22 Ultra in pristine condition in a case on my lap. Forgetting it was there I began to get out of the car essentially flinging my phone out of the car and onto the pavement facedown, cracking the screen in the process. So after my day, I debated my options and decided to opt for the pick-up repair option where I could choose when the courier came to my door. And as I needed my phone I chose the very next day. After backing up the files and the other content on the phone, I put it into maintenance mode, charged it up and left it for when the courier came. The next day arrived and the courier (DPD) took my phone to a certified Samsung repair center. The phone had got there the next day and I was emailed an initial inspection fee which was £30 and if I went with the repair then it would be deducted from the final total. At this point I knew that getting it repaired from Samsung would be the cheapest option, the local repair shop near me said they would do it for an eye watering £270 and I knew that if I took it to Samsung it would be a bit cheaper and that I would be getting genuine Samsung parts, so to me it was the obvious choice. Another day passes and I get another email, this time for the repair, which was £194. I was definitely pleased by this and went with the repair and about 2 days later I had my S22 Ultra at my door. And I currently typing this comment on it. In total, the process took about 5 days. From sending it to them, Samsung repairing it and the sending it back to me. Overall, in my opinion it was a very good experience, I was constantly informed with what was going on with the emails I was sent and although I could do without making such a silly error which cost me this much, I'm glad I got my phone repaired with this repair programme.

The reason I keep going back to apple is because of their service. EVERY, single time I have had an issue the fixed it at the apple store. There is no samsung store to go to, which is huge when you don’t have time to ship. They will give you a replacement product the same day if need be. Also, I have sent in my airpods once, and the shipping process was super easy. Literally take the airpods to ups store and give them the airpods, without a box or anything just how you normally carry and provide them repair id that apple texts you. I got my airpods literally the next day after repair was finished. I also always get apple care plus on my phones, ipads, and airpods. I love that instead of just buying it as a one time charge that covers only 2 years you can get a monthly plan that never expires and you can even choose between a theft/loss replacement plan or standard. My iphone 13 pro theft plan is $14 a month. Far cheaper than carrier insurance, and can go right to the store.

My experience with Samsung has been excellent here in Aus. I have Care+ and dropped my S22U on its face, I spoke to an agent on their website chat, they charged me 100 AUD sent me an envelope that came the following day. I sent it off and had a working unit 2 days after that. Seemingly a far better experience than Arun had.

My experience with Apple was pretty good. I had a speaker problem with my at the time relatively new iPad 3 and they even sent a new one before I sent my defective device. I was essentially only one day without it. The experience with my AirPods Pro Earbud replacement was less fluid but more to the fact that UPS is just shit and less having to do with Apple.

I've only had the joy of getting a repair from Google so far - their process was entirely online, so no call needed and absolutely smooth. They sent a box, it arrived next day (or so), within a week i had it back in a "Hello again!" Box. That little touch of "Hello again!" had me absolutely smiling. Flawless, no complaints. Minimizing the direct human interaction (calls) definitely helped. (Note that even if it was for a company, it would have been the same procedure as an individual.)

On Wednesday I had a chat with Apple Support about an issue with my AirPods. Other person on the chat knew what they were talking about and we quickly got the repair process kicked off. Today (yesterday was a public holiday) someone came to pick up the AirPods to deliver them to the Apple Store. Everything worked awesome so far.

I've dealt with google personally and it was a simple chat on their website they gave me a label i sent it off, i had email updates every step of the way and i could even track where it was. I waited 7 days and it was back with me, in that time they sent it from the uk to poland, "fixed" it and gave it back. However I think i did recieve an entirely different device as my broken device had its IMEI number on the sim tray and a few scratches and grooves in the plastic (pixel 4a with no case) and the one they sent me back had no IMEI number In the sim card tray and also no scratches and as a bonus the battery life was way better than my, at this point 18 month old phone. Overall a great experience.

The customer service really reflected the company. Apple wants your money immediately, but repairs and ships your phone immediately. Samsung wants less of your money once they found the actual cost, but it took a little over 4 weeks.

I have insurance on my iPhone just because of the horrendously expensive screen repair costs though I always use a case & screen protector. I’ve found Apple support to be much better than Samsung support when dealing with issues. My experiences with Samsung support regarding problems with my note 9 & S22 ultra were really awful. So I stuck to Apple as their support doesn’t leave me pulling my hair out in frustration
3 ай бұрынJohn Atkinson
also a big difference is if this is your personal phone you use day to day, with Samsung you have to send it in for repair where as with Apple they can do repair's in store. For screens and batteries they often quote 2 hour turn overs for repairs so while this was an experiment on the customer service side, if you needed to get your phone back up and running again Apple could be faster in many cases unless you live no only far from an Apple Store but also a certified apple repair shop(ie the ones apple marks on their site and are confirmed to use genuine parts)
Ай бұрынNikko Toska +2
Apple's screen repairs have gotten more and more expensive over the years. I used to carry my phone around without a case and when I would inevitably crack the screen I would have it repaired. With the prices they're at now, I make sure I have a case on it along with a screen protector. But the best part of a bad situation was that the repairs could be done same day in store. So yeah it sucks to have to shell out that much money, but the saving grace is that I can be up and running again in a few hours, not days, weeks or months.
3 ай бұрынJ P
They don’t crack as easily as they used to. I don’t have a case for my 12 as well and it fell down a couple of times but it never cracked. Whereas cases tend to scratch the phone

Last time I had a phone repaired with apple at the Apple Store I was informed they don’t actually repair them, they just give me a handset already repaired and it was to look at it brand new. I was told they will replace the battery, screen, and case and anything else they feel needs replacing at the factory. I was stunned, absolutely stunned. It took me less than an hour in the Apple Store. I can’t remember the exact amount, but it was over £10. 🤣😂🤣😂

@ElectrodexifyI've had good and bad service. Had a watch break and I had it collected and returned in 6 days. I think it was mainly because they have British call centres. But I guess it alwasy goes back to... It depends on who you speak to.

This is exactly why i booked a rapair at my local samsung store. Dropped it off when they confirmed they had parts; went for some scran and 1hr later it was ready via text. Off topic, but Oneplus were actually decent when i dealt with a screen repair through them - they also only charged me an extra £8 for a brand new battery on top aswell. I remember back in the day when apple would just go into the back and whip you out a brand new phone - damn I miss that.

"have you heard about Bixby" 😂. For real though, I broke my Samsung screen a few weeks back. I used their website to schedule an appointment the very next day at an authorized Samsung repair retailer (ended up being right done the road from me). The guy has it completely fixed within an hour for $300. Samsung even ensures the tech passes a series of Samsung's own verification tests (which the tech said he hates to do, but I appreciated). Good as new 👍

I guess it varies by region but I have used Samsung for years and they can come to you... and there's certified repair centers all over the place... I cracked my screen one night, sent it for repair the next morning and had it back a few hours later... looked brand new and everything... I had another situation where the phone was beyond repair... My phone was somehow out of stock for replacement so they just refunded my money and got a different phone at a much better price than what I originally paid.

One thing I'm surprised isn't taken advantage of here is that you can just iMessage Apple. When I had the Airpod Pro hissing problem, I just reached out via iMessage, ran through the troubleshooting, and they sent me a box for my Airpod Pros to look at them. No need to stay on the phone or go through an auto-attendant first. That's what makes Apple's repair process great to me.

I had a camera issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max about 2-3 years ago and chatted with the Apple Support. I fortunately bought AppleCare+ for that phone and I encourage every iPhone user to do this. They sent me a NEW replacement iPhone with no extra charge the very next morning. I transferred everything over and UPS collected the defective phone the same day. It clearly was covered by warranty, but without AppleCare+ it would've probably taken multiple days and me being without a phone for that period of time. Apple's support has never ever let me down.

I've had broken phones from both companies. There are "authorized service centers" that I've used for them a couple times with 0 issues. With Apple I've set an appointment, walked in, and it was taken care of promptly. Apples service is second to none with the issues I've had. It certainly will vary but the fact that Apple has stores that I can go to make it a little easier.

Local corner repair shops don't necessarily mean that your device will be fixed properly. In some instances the local repair shop could make things worse to the point of rendering your device useless. I would say you really would have to do research on local shops if you go that route.

Last year there was an fw update that completely bricked my SmartTag. While I couldn't find the warranty info anywhere, it had only been few months so I'd imagine it was still in warranty. I then used the online chat, and they said unlike phones/tablets, they couldn't do anything about the tag, and asked me to call the support department (I'll label this as dept A as things quickly get complicated). Dept A agent 1 listened then transferred me to another agent 2 in their dept. Then agent 2 said they couldn't do anything either, and moved me to dept B. The transfer took well over 30 mins, and dept B said they were for appliances (?), then transferred me to dept C. Dept C said they were located in the UK and I should call US sup dept D. Seriouly? I'm in the US and the previous two depts I called were also in the US, no idea why they'd transfer me to UK. Dept D sent me to dept A. Thanks Samsung, the circle is now complete. At the time I've already spent more than 3 hours. And I had to explain the issue to a new dept or agent every single time. Definitely not worth the time. Ended up throwing the tag away.
