most of the issues you mentioned are either an issue with apple being apple and the fact that a feature (folding the phone) can also have downsides. There are of course tradeoffs but the fact that you're scrolling more because the screen is too little (7:50) is optional, you don't have to fold it to display content, if you want you could not fold it and set it against a stand just like the iphone.

I liked the comparison, but would think the S23 ultra would be a better phone to compare. You're making hardware compromises when going with a foldable device. Especially in camera. I would love to see this redone with a flagship non foldable device.

I was really hesitant using a folding phone. I work through a samsung ambassador program where they gave us the flip3 at work, and then the flip 4. I really thought I'd hate it at first, but after having the flip3 for a year, my main issues were mostly addressed with the 4. The other main issue is the durability though, I had a noticeable tear in my screen in the 3 after a year, and I do have one with my 4, although its a lot less noticeable after a year with the 4. This was after a year in both cases and while my 4 looks a lot better after a year, I think as I approach the next few months it'll become a lot more of an issue that I can't ignore.

From a neutral POV, the S23 ultra or Pixel 7 pro were more suitable for comparison, mostly because I feel like the video seemed to lean more towards highlighting the disadvantages of a foldable phone, not really those of android. Maybe I'm wrong...

I find the appeal to the flip phone really is to bring a phone back to being a communication device rather than an all around media consumption device. For someone like me who has no games on their phone and prefers to watch youtube and netflix on a TV or tablet my phone really is just for communciation. I personally would go for a flip for the same reason as Arun, to get away from the noise and simply focus on enjoying life without doom scrolling.

Because 90% of the population buying phones aren’t getting a new 1k phone every year. Maybe once every 6 or even 10 years so it doesn’t really matter. Also, Apple’s ease of use is high priority for most people buying tech because they don’t care about phone performance that much.

You can't have cake and eat it too. Why haven't Android made so many of these "features"? Because they can't. It won't work cross-device and cross-platform. That's why only Apple can do a lot of this continuity stuff. Yes it locks you in, but the alternative is not having the features at all, not having the features work cross-platform.
23 күн бұрынMist +61
@FPS Kelly as far as i'm aware pretty much all of the continuity stuff is possible with windows and android if you are willing to spend the 5 minutes to download something like iriun webcam and set it up on your phone and pc (btw iriun webcam basically does what continuity camera does, real useful stuff, i think it's been around longer too) it isn't something only apple can do, though i will admit that because of their tight control over the hardware and software it makes it significantly more seamless (in most cases)

Yes, I agree. Switching from a flagship iPhone to an Android flip phone is like comparing Apples to Oranges (no pun intended). In any case, I've owned the Flip 4, and Samsung's Galaxy S series, and even flagships years older than the flip feels better and more premium. I am on a iPhone 14 Pro Max currently, but as long as you don't count these flips, the android flagships keep up well... and that's the story he should have gone with.

To be fair, Samsung's Smart Switch app works fairly well when switching from another Android phone (even from a non-Samsung one). I know from experience that switching from Android to iOS is a very difficult and buggy process (as I've had to help a friend do this), so it doesn't surprise me that the other way around is also problematic.

Its nice at a restaurant because it is more private and saves table space. Also the crease doesn't seem to cause glare for other viewers. And taking a video from external is easy with the twist gesture. Also propping a non foldable phone up with books, shoes, a water bottle so it can CLUNK down or add that finger thing on the back is so out lol❤

Using the Flip5 - my first folding phone. One thing I have to say, Arun - you realise you can just use the phone as a slab phone too, right? I agree with some of your points, but in cases like "the top screen is smaller when using it in flex mode" isn't actually much of a thing - just use the phone fully open. Really, it's just a normal phone with some extra quirks and features. The third camera is the only piece that I was concerned about, but it's been fine so far. No desire to go back to a slab phone yet

Android does have an AirDrop equivalent now and it's called Nearby Share. I am surprised you never found out about it considering it's right there in the share sheet in this video at 11:23. However, unlike Windows you will need a third party app on Mac called NearDrop to use Nearby Share because Apple does not like to work with industry standards. It's funny that the very reason you cited for staying with the iPhone (the ecosystem) is why I will probably never move over to the iPhone or even the Mac. I really like that Android and Windows work really well with each other and even try to work with MacOS and iOS as best as they can. The only reason they don't work as well with the Apple platforms is because of Apple themselves. Case in point - Windows does allow you to take phone calls from your iPhone or Android phone on your PC using the Phone Link app. Apple only allows this for iPhones because they don't care about you if you use an Android phone. I prefer using platforms and devices that don't have that level of elitism about themselves and just focus on the consumer regardless of which other devices they have.

Switching from iPhone to Samsung was an interesting experience for me. As a long-time iOS user, I wanted to see what Samsung had to offer and if it could meet my needs better. The transition itself was relatively smooth, thanks to the Google ecosystem being available on both platforms. However, there were a few noticeable differences in terms of design, user interface, and app compatibility. I appreciated the customization options and larger variety of device choices that Samsung provided, but I also missed the seamless integration between Apple devices. Overall, it was a personal choice that allowed me to explore a different side of the smartphone market, but I ultimately decided to switch back to iPhone as it aligned better with my preferences and prior experiences.
25 күн бұрынKashif's World 2 +29
Based on your answer, I feel you have an Apple ecosystem built around you and the MacBook or iPad might tell you not to replace them for a Samsung ecosystem. To be fair Samsung has made a lot of integration choices with the Galaxy Book and tab s9 and stuff like airdrop, calling and answering from Windows, universal clipboard, remembering the page you left on your pdf, not to mention literally using android apps directly on windows and stuff are things that are built into windows regardless of wether the laptop is a Samsung one or not. many features are compatible with Samsung midrangers like A54 (any phone that is NOT running one UI core and is 2020 or newer should be compatible) as well. But again Personal preference.

As you stated, I think the transfer problem was because you went from an Apple to an Android. When I transferred from my Galaxy S10 to my S22 Ultra I had none of the issues you had. The transfer had only a few hiccups, usually due to older apps. But, the other issues, especially the Apple ecosystem, can never be matched with an Apple/Andriod interface. Apple to Apple will always win. For obvious reasons.

I remember the first samsung flip I had a chance to actually hold in my hand. I was considering getting one but I was just concerned about that crease so getting one in hand was a moment. I don't like the feel of the crease a LOT more than even I expected. I love the idea of a folding phone that easily fits in the pocket and it sounds great but the feel of the crease is just soooooooo bad. Thankfully I'm not switching from apple to android (did that way back with the iPhone 4) so right now I'm just sorta waiting on a flip phone that feels good *enough* to not hit that crease and always cringe.

I had the worst time with face unlock (probably because I use glasses and they glare up). Bundle that you require to pick up the device when set on a table to quickly dismiss a notification made me really miss the fingerprint unlock when I needed to action on it or read from the lock screen. The Flip was made for ppl that use a phone for a phone. Not a power user, not the heavy gamer, not the photographer. That extra layer to open the device also provides a "soft" wall to advert those 3+ hours of screen time we don't really need
25 күн бұрынMilind Dixit +43
I run a work iPhone12 and have a Flip5 as a personal phone. I like both for different reasons but you nailed it with the Flip5 drawbacks - for me though, the fun of opening to answer a call or shut it to end is not wearing off (yet), watching quick videos on YouTube without needing a stand or a case with a built in stand or ring stand is useful (even if the screen is small), and holding it like a old school camcorder to take video means I take longer videos than I ever have before as its so comfortable. The cover screen also let's me use it onehanded which is super useful and is maybe 50% of interactions I have with the Flip. But I wouldn't want it for work use - the iPhone is just so much slicker and better to use when I really need it be working perfectly and consistently. I'm OK accepting some flaws with a personal device though.

I think it’s harder for iPhone users to leave unless they are really fed up with the state of Apple iPhone products. How hard it is to leave one system or another depends on the user. I never bound myself to any, so I can switch between Android and iOS at any time and miss zero stuff "ecosystem" wise. But I know people that have a harder time, and actually I know more people having difficulties leaving the Samsung eco system to a different Android brand, than that I know people having difficulties leaving iOS. But that is maybe due to where I live. Anyhow ecosystems are like a plague, avoid them because they only exist to make your life miserable the moment you even try getting out of it for whatever reason.

I think this would be different if the z fold supported dex. A lot if ecosystem problems with android fade away when you can use wireless dex to just pull things from the phone directly. With that said, it’s still not as convenient as airdrop, so I understand if that doesn’t fix things

Just got the Flip 5 for cheap trading in my Pixel 6 Pro (liked it but to much overheating to keep it). Love the small form factor I can leave in my pocket 80% of the time and then mostly use the front screen. The rest is just checking information using my "matching" smartwatch 6 Classic. I'm not young so I have much better things to do than stare at a phone all day but I do know a lot of people that need to carry a phone but don't use one very much. The combo should last me for years, and since phones haven't made any big leaps in at least five years, I can't waste money on nearly unnoticeable incremental changes.

I believe there's a setting to move the brightness slider, but there's an easier way to bring down the notifications. Swipe down anywhere on your screen. No need to remember which half of the status bar to swipe from. The face unlock is NOT from Samsung. It's the default Android face unlock. The Galaxy S8 line was the last Samsung to have the IR face unlock. I wish they still had it, but I also like not having a notch in my screen. Honestly, the captured audio from the closed mode sounds better to me. The flipped open audio sounds compressed, but I do like the color saturation more from the inside camera. The outside camera looks washed out. Even in the yoga photo, the inside camera photo would be the one I'd keep despite being a bit less sharp. What I'd like is a case with a nub to help with one handed opening. I know I'll get a folding phone, but I'm going to wait a few more generations. The Fold is currently more appealing than the Flip.

I made the same mistake 2 years back switching to flip 3 and it has been very frustrating for all the reasons you mentioned, plus the display started acting out and then stopped working for no reason. basically I think its not worth a switch from an iPhone but if you compare it with other average android phones then it seems like a cool upgrade with some nostalgia to dwell on. help me choose between android or apple again as you always have 😂 love your channel and content. keep growing. 😁

I've always thought that with any android, their answer to cameras is lets just throw the latest largest sensor in and call it a day, compared to iPhone that can keep with a way smaller sensor and still keep up/beat them out of the box. Yes there are third-party apps especially for android that are better optimised for the sensors but most of us just want to snap a quick photo not fiddle for hours adjusting every little setting to get the best out of the hardware.] and this is coming from someone who has both iphone and android phones so im not loyal to either lol

After the Galaxy S3, I waited to see if the S4 would be worth upgrading to; my brother had the S4, S5, and S6 and just didn’t seem happy with his upgrades year in and year out. So, I was basically done with Samsung a long time ago. I keep up to date with everything Apple puts out and the different flavors of Android phones… and in my opinion, while Samsung phones have innovative hardware, I’ve just never been a fan of their software and the battery issues so many of their devices have easily steered me away from them. If I’m getting an Android (I’m an iPhone user now), I’m going with a Pixel or the Zenfone. And since ASUS isn’t making them after this year, it really only leaves one option (Oneplus phones look great but I personally buy a phone for their photo/video taking capabilities and the iPhone is the undisputed king for it, followed closely by the Pixel line of phones - Oneplus phones aren’t there yet).

Honestly, if i would switch to an Android phone. I would go for Samsung as well and i was already thinking about the Flip phone. I remember fondly using those flip phones from Ericsson back in the day (i believe it was the T10s.) I think the "fold" is too big. I also don't like the iPhone Pro Max (or plus.) I once bought the iPhone 6s+ and it just wasn't for me. Though i sticked with it until the iPhone X came out. Man was i happy with the downsize of the screen. I'm still using my iPhone X btw. After 5yrs. it will be time to say goodbye and i'm going with the iPhone 15 Pro. Sadly enough, that screen will be a little bigger. But it's time to finally upgrade.

This channel has come such a long way. The quality has gotten better and the videos are much more engaging. I know he only just recently started making the videos with higher energy but tbh I didn't realize how big a difference it makes. Last night I put on a video from this channel that was only about a year and a half or so old and buddy the difference was night and day I swear the energy in the video was nonexistent and felt like the most boring video I had ever seen. I immediately stopped the video and put on his most recent video (the one just before this was uploaded) and it felt like I was watching a totally different person. Congrats Arun and team. You guys are doing great!

Usually I love your reviews. This one though left a lot to be desired, simply because you chose the most unconventional android for the comparison. It's not even a foldable thing. Some of it was just a Z Flip thing, like using the rear camera. I have a Z Fold and it's miles better, because most of the time it works like a regular phone. And it's a thousand times better than the iPhone.

I have to thank you for this upload Arun, I’ve been tempted to switch to the exact same zflip. Samsung is having a promotion rn where you can get an extra $600 on top of your trade in device. So I was going to get rid of my iPhone but personally I’m too attached to messages on iPhone, apple has successfully bullied me into thinking I need to have a blue text bubble and not green 😔. I wish I could have both a zflip and a 13 pro. I just hate how heavy iPhones have become especially with dealing with a wrist injury, you really understand just how freaking heavy iPhones are.

Oh, I feel sorry for you 🤒. Just don't follow what others have to say about your needs! If you feel uncomfortable holding an iPhone and using it for longer periods, why not try something new? Maybe consider the Samsung S23 Ultra or Xiaomi 13 Pro; these are good Android options in my opinion. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make; there's no need to get caught up in the blue and green bubble - it's all marketing gimmicks. Choose the better side and forget everything else

I went into a best buy a few months ago and looked down the aisle of phones. Every single one looked the same. I've been using apple since the 5 and stopped at the 11. Little has changed. So little that I think technology has become stagnant and now we need innovation. I got the flip 4 for an msrp thats half the leading phones prices. I made the switch and am happy with it 7 months later. I also wanted a round smartwatch since the rectangle design was also getting stale. So I got a google pixel watch and its really good. The only complaint is that if you put your phone on silent, the watch doesnt copy thay setting. Otherwise, I enjoy my samsung more than my iphone and I find myself spending less time on my phone since the notifications show up on the outside screen. Overall pleased with my purchase.

What you mentioned about the ecosystem dependency is so real. I switched to iPhone from an all Samsung ecosystem (TV, phone, earbuds, smartwatch) and it was so difficult. I couldn't use Siri to remotely control my TV whenever I couldn't find the remote (Bixby is so convenient that you basically don't need a TV remote control anymore, so I ended up not even searching for the remote anymore) With the iPhone everything felt so chunky whenever connecting the devices, not to mention that Samsung smartwatches don't work with iPhone, starting from Galaxy watch 4. I eventually ended up returning the iPhone and switching back to Samsung. It's crazy how you easily you can get stuck in an ecosystem without even realizing it, and then not being able to leave it easily.

It was a bit of a pain when I switched to iOS from Android a little over 4 years ago. At first, I didn't really like Apple as much. Once I got past the adjustment period, I've been satisfied. I'm older so customization and all that has lost it's novelty. Of course, you can customize an iPhone but it's a pain in the nether regions and for me, not worth the effort. I work outside around heavy equipment and dirt and dust, so I'll not be getting a foldable. I've seen them, and they look cool, just not for me. I'm in the Eco-System now and am satisfied. I do enjoy keeping up with advancements, and I also enjoy the passion so many of you have for this stuff. Thanks, Arun.

I always use the slight bend at work for lunch. It's so cool!!! My phone stands up on my tray or table and I can eat and watch shows or movies. I got used to it and I love my flip phone. I got the galaxy buds that match. Everything you mention that you're not excited over......Im used to and they are actually not that bad. Haha. I love my phone so much and everyone around me INCLUDING APPLE USERS ask about my phone. 😂 I find myself trying to fold everyone's phone around me. Flipping my phone makes me feel cool since like I rarely see anyone with the same phone. It can just get awkward when my hands are kind of holding other stuff. Still, I don't have a problem with my phone and every change is fine. I knew the pros and cons of getting a flip before I did and they were never a big deal to me. Before when every phone flipped and texting meant hitting the same key several times just to get the letter you want........this phone is a massive step up from that after all these years. A foldable and compact phone that you can slip in your pocket and not worry about its edges stabbing you when you sit is very good. It's well worth any little thing and the dust isn't going to make me throw my phone. It just means extra cleaning but it's not the end of the world. As for the cameras my sister who has a apple phone likes the photos but I'm always reminding her that when I send videos or she sends me videos they always look so awful because we have different ecosystems. I like my photos that this takes.

Firstly, WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE! I ditched my iPhone 5 for the Samsung Galaxy S9+ in 2018! I was extremely frustrated in the beginning because Android literally wants you to customize everything! I think it took me a year for me to feel completely comfortable with the switch. At that time I wanted the best camera for photos as I don't film many videos. I tested the S9+ against the iPhone 12, or 13? Whichever iPhone was out at the time of the Galaxy S9. Samsung's camera beat Apple's hands down every time. I was especially impressed with Samsung's image stabilization since I'm usually shooting images while I'm on the move, with 1 hand.

Foldables are still a rather young product. I understand they're fresh and exciting but they're a bit of a trap since they're still very flawed in a lot of ways compared to the tried and true slab smartphone design. People switch to foldables looking for something fresh, but once that freshness wears off they often realize it's a worse overall experience (not everyone though, some people obviously can live with the drawbacks)

As far as phone ownership goes, by this point, the only way I’m really going to impressed now is if I see someone still using an actual Moto flip phone or something from like 2007 lol 😄 - back when phones were maybe less ‘functional’ by modern standards, but given that we had no idea what was to come and were very happy with what we had, they were genuinely sooooooo much more fun, and just low tech enough that it wouldn’t keep you awe struck and glued to it for hours on end watching videos and wasting time, they were literally just - phones, with some neat features, and every phone had different ones, whereas now, everyone has the exact same phone that they need to put that much effort into letting you feel like it’s so uniquely yours and no one else could possibly have ‘your exact setup’ or something… that all just seems so super silly.

From what I think for having a button to unfold the phone, it seemed to be a tiny little risk that it can *perhaps* suddenly unfold the phone when you put your phone in your pockets for example. Let's say that you accidentally clicked on it, you can imagine what's going to happen next, the phone unfolds in your pocket. The only thing you can tell now, is that you have to figure out how to get it out. I think the point that you maybe missing there is that, maybe after the user passes user recognition and with a click of a button, the phone will unfold itself? But hey, I'm giving out my own opinion here, there's no need for a big hate for not mentioning that!

Have a 3 year old Note 20 ultra and a 10 month old Flip 4. I also use an ageing Lenovo Windows laptop with Chrome as default. Find it all works together fine - although I've not bothered to use the new Samsung/Windows link [for picture copy or calls]. I never understand why people with macs bother with trying to compare iphones and android phones. It obvious there's struggle to 'talk' to each other. As I use Google Pictures and Google Drive on the laptop, content easily transfers to either phone. I have Google Home and both phones [and watch 6's] and Google Keep so the whole lot integrates just fine. Once you are stuck within one eco system it is a pain to change. I cannot bear to part with my trusty Note 20 Ultra [512 gb with 400 gb micro sd card - yes I need that much memory!] but my love affair with the Flip 4 is waning and I will trade it in for an S24 next Feb. I enjoy my time with it but the tall screen and lack of 50x digital zoom, which I assumed it would have, means it has go. I was tempted by the bigger cover screen of the Flip 5 - but No, that wasn't enough to tempt me!

Part of what I dislike about Android and why I switched to iPhone over 10 years ago, and you touched upon this (as it's still a problem), is I HATE having to download third party apps to do basic things like easily change settings. I get that customization is the biggest selling point of Android, but I hate the idea of having to do 20 steps just to easily be able to do things like change the brightness. iPhone / iOS is very streamlined and simplistic, and that's what I've always loved about it. Do I wish there was a little more customization? Sure, but to me that comes with far too many tradeoffs. I've also STILL never used an Android phone that doesn't completely bog down after about a year of regular use. I don't know if this is the bloat by most manufacturer customized Android releases, or an actual hardware issue.
